August 2024 Artist Exhibition – Beaverton Art Gallery Showcases An Infusion of Color With Angelita Surmon
This exhibit will be featured as part of Downtown Beaverton’s First Friday Artwalk on Friday, August 2, and will include a wine, soft drinks and nibbles reception from 5 PM – 9 PM in the Grey Raven Gallery (near the Reser Center and Beaverton City Hall).
Beginning August 2nd, Oregon artist Angelita Surmon will debut her paintings and offer new glasswork in the gallery. Surmon’s kiln-formed glass creations and digital prints have been a staple of the gallery since its opening in March of 2023.
Surmon’s paintings “immerse the viewer in an intimate scene, guiding them through the undergrowth of a forest or along a tranquil riverbank,” says gallery founder Barbara Mason. “Her work exposes beautifully a private view that is yours alone.” Much like her kiln-fused glass creations, her multi-layered approach to painting gives her work depth, and a surreal and almost 3-D appearance that invites viewers to dive into her art to learn more. Each of her works has simple yet elegant detail that depicts nature’s beauty and geometry.
Angelita Surmon is best known for her layered paintings and glasswork of complex tangles and thickets. Her works reflect a deep-rooted love of the landscape and an acknowledgment of the path led by other artists. Her works are informed by close-up observations of the tangled grasses, reflections at the water’s edge and the branches and thickets of the forest understory.
Angelita has exhibited in galleries locally and nationally for over 40 years. An Oregon native, Angelita holds BS and BFA degrees from Oregon State University, with a focus on painting and printmaking. And when she’s not in the studio or the woods, Angelita enjoys the inspiration that travel can spark. From New Guinea to New York and many places in-between, it all enriches the tapestry of her art.

Grey Raven Gallery, the only fine art gallery in Beaverton, Oregon, welcomes visitors from Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM – 5 PM. The gallery also extends its hours on select evenings to support events at the Beaverton Round and the Patricia Reser Center for the Performing Arts. Located in the retail space beneath the parking garage next to the Reser Center, the gallery is just around the corner from the Beaverton Round. Visitors will enjoy various retail shops and dining options, including local food carts. The gallery entrance is on Rose Biggi Avenue.
